Mid Terms

The election is over. Am I happy? I am happy the Democrats regained The House which will help curtail the madman in charge so that is a positive step. I cannot understand people voting Democrat for the House and Republican for the Senate but I seldom understand Republican voters anyway.
I am sad about the outcome of a few races, Texas Senator, Florida Governor, Georgia Governor and a few others. It was refreshing to see so many young, progressive, female Democrats elected to the House, that is a step in the right direction.
I would not really be happy unless every Republican is escorted form the building with their personal belongings in a cardboard box but this was a step in the right direction.

Voter suppression was rampant! The worst cases were the First Nations people who were prevented from voting because their villages lacked street addresses and Dodge City where the polling place was moved to a mile outside the bus routes. There will be many more like the polling place that had no way to plug in the voting machines.

  1. What I can't understand is why voters can look at an economy that's doing better than it has in decades, unemployment is super low, wages are up, the market is booming, and thinking "I can't stand anymore of this good stuff!".

I mean let's face it, you have to be an idiot to actually want the economy to do bad. But then look what I'm saying. Oxymorons and all. ;)

    1. Did you watch his "Press Conference" Don? Did he seem sane to you?

    2. Is that the finger you want on the button?

    3. Croft, I also listened to the press conference. The conference seemed impromptu; if you noticed, there were no back up people with him like anyone from the White House Communications Office or his Chief of Staff, very disorganized. If you noticed his face looked swollen, and his regular makeup job didn't seem to cover his tired eyes. He absolutely was in attack demeanor. Most of those journalists should know by now that they are not going to get a direct answer from him. Jim Acosta from (I think) CNN kept pounding him with questions and just would not give up the mike. So, a young lady who worked for the White House tried to wrench the Mike from his hand and his left arm barred her from doing so. Now Jim has been ousted from the White House permanently for interfering with the young lady. Among the free-for-all was one journalist who asked him a simple question, and it was "When the investigations of you are convened by the House Oversight Committee and the House Intelligence Committee, will you be able to compartmentalize your work with Congress for enacting important legislation for the US, on one hand, and provide the House with needed information for the investigations, on the other hand? He said no because Congress and the White House will be in war mode, therefore, the business of this country will come to a standstill.

He's been pretty good at "resetting" himself each morning, but what I saw in the press room did not look good. The leaks that have been recently passed around are regarding imminent indictments of Don, Jr. and his son-in-law. I know he wants to cut off the money keeping Mueller's investigation afloat, but from Congressmen in the know they say the Russia investigation is almost complete. So, cutting off funds won't him much. He certainly has a lot to worry about as time is almost up.

    4. For 2 years he's done fine. I dislike his demeanor but I like the results.

One thing great about the US is one person can't do that much damage, unless of course the media is in the tank for them (like Obama).

    5. The clip that the WH Press Office showed to justify taking Jim Acosta's credentials away has now been shown to have been manipulated the show more of a violent action by Acosta than there actually was. How could the press office be stupid enough to use a doctored video? Surly they knew that CNN would have the original footage. Or are they that dumb? Theirs was the very definition of "fake news"!

    6. The actions of the intern on the real video may actually show grounds for assault charges against her.

    7. Yes, I saw her reach around Acosta (she was on his opposite side), put her hand on the Mike in an attempt to wrench the Mike away from him, he then put his left arm out to stop her "offending" arm and hand, and he said "excuse me ma'am." She then took her hand away and squatted down. One thing I'm good at is details! She was the aggressor in this case. But, in being objective here, I wouldn't call it assault.

As far as the doctored video, what would you expect? They aren't the brightest stars in the sky! In this day of capability of easy fact checking, it's so easy to shoot down the lies and propaganda. For example, at rallies Trump told his supporters that he was responsible for twice as many new jobs as Obama within 21 months of his presidency compared to the last 21 months of Obama's presidency. So, I went on line to the US Dept. of National Statistics, and the US Dept. says that during that time under Obama over 500,000 more jobs were created than in Trumps' time span. (However, as I was taught in college, there is no direct correlation between presidents and creation of jobs in the private sector, only in the public sector such as civil service jobs.) So Trump's "alternative truths" at these rallies should be an insult to his supporters' intelligence.

    8. So the President said Acosta was done but he wouldn't stop talking.

If you guys were honest and this was Obama you would be screaming about how that reporter should be kicked out of the WH. Done.

    9. Don, I don't know if you are old enough to remember, but if you are and you think back to the Nixon administration press conferences (and he gave very few because he really hated the press), Nixon had the same problems with a well-respected journalist by the name of HelenThomas, now deceased in 2013. While Nixon was defending himself without defaming her personally, he would break out in sweat around his mouth which happened when he was angry, but he kept his cool. But Helen knew when she was to the point of "hogging" the press conference and should give her fellow journalists a turn on the floor to ask questions. Acosta was rude in "hogging" the conference, and Trump definitely wasn't cool and spread his anger to other journalists around the room without cause, simply because he didn't like the questions. What did he think the details of his job were going to be?

  2. My son had to vote provincial, he has been registered for five years at his current address, voted in 6 elections, yet this time, his address was not right. He lives in a Democratic voting area-makes you wonder...

    1. The FL governor's race is actually getting much closer.

    2. Croft, reduced to .2 percent, last I looked. With a race this close, recounts, absentee ballots, and provisional ballots make a big difference. Knowing how much you revel in this stuff, you would be in your element among such a large election of diverse voting groups. After seeing a poll indicating that 30 percent of the electorate now considers themselves Independents, the US may be ready for a third primary political party on par with the Democratic and Republican Parties.

    3. Why do these "found ballots" always seem to be heavily Democratic? Wouldn't you think they would be more like how the rest of the votes were?

    4. Maybe we should ask Al Gore that question.

    5. Don, if you are speaking about the current vote counts and recounts in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, Florida, both of those counties have been traditionally "blue" counties since 1992. Since the two statewide races in question are for the US Senate and as Florida's Governor, it would stand to reason that the majority of the "found" votes would be for incumbent Senator Nelson and Mayor Gillum.

    6. P.S. Don, I don't understand the second question. Would you explain to me more clearly what you mean by "other votes."

    7. P.P.S. Sorry. I mean "rest of the votes."

  4. I mean the ones that were counted by the end of election day.

Just like in 2000 when Bush was up by a lot at the end of the election day after the recount they kept "finding" more ballots and they leaned heavily Democratic.

In other words something stinks in Palm Beach and Broward counties.
