This Blog was created to chronicle our travels in Mexico but has since morphed into something else entirely. Our periodic Mexico travels are still in here but if that is why you came here, you will have to dig a little to get to it. Try searching the Blog Archive in the right hand column.

Border Preminitions
We have neighbors here at the park who were turned back at the Mexico border because the VIN on their registration did not match the VIN on the vehicle. It was close but not perfect. They have had the vehicle into Mexico before but this time they took a magnifying glass to the VIN tag and found a discrepancy. They told us that while they were there another couple got turned back because they did not have a marriage certicicate. After all my warning people to carry their certificate, we left ours at home. They were not asking everyone, so we might slip past. I have my fingers crossed.
Thinking good thoughts for you guys. Worst comes to worse, you've got someone at home who could courier you the doc if it's a place where she can find it...
ReplyDeleteWhat?! Marriage certificate? Are single people not allowed into Mexico anymore....
ReplyDeleteNo problema, we are in!
ReplyDeleteIs there an excuse for the VIN numbers not matching?
ReplyDeleteI believe the marriage certificate if to verify the change of name and the difference between the birth certificate and passport.
ReplyDeleteThis is not the only time I have heard of the VIN discrepancy. I do know it is difficult to read and write down the VIN and in one other case, the wrong registration (Title) papers were handed out when the vehicle was purchased and this was not detected for years.
That marriage license thing is a new twist to me. I have not heard of having to produce a birth certificate if you have a passport - even when acquiring an FM3 or FM2.
ReplyDeleteBut, apparently you are writing that both documents are required to get over the border in your neck of Mexico (west of where we enter (@ Brownsville, TX.)
Hey welcome to Mexico amigo!
