Posting From Windows 10!

I upgraded my old Windows 7 Compaq laptop first so I had something to use for a test platform. I wanted to make sure all my existing programs worked before up dating the rest of the computers.

So far, so good! The most important thing is Quicken works! And it works better than it did on Windows 8.1 where every time it opened it told me I must change my language to English. I clicked OK and it was happy until next time I opened it.

First impressions are that it is maybe a little faster. So far I am happy. Now I can fix this old computer. It needs a new battery and I have to replace the LED inverter as the screen has become quite dim over the 5 years I have owned it. I bought a new laptop last winter when this one crapped out but I brought it back to life by reloading Windows.

Happy, Happy! Life Is Good!

  1. You brave man. :)

I am so reticent when it comes to updating my operating systems! I'm two versions behind right now on Mac OSX and it'll probably be a matter of weeks, not months, that I'll be three versions behind. I just don't like the learning curve of a new OS when everything is working fine. But you have more spare time for this sort of thing than I do, so I guess you don't mind putting in the time.

As for Windows, I'm on version 7 for the foreseeable future. I don't even know if I'll ever see version 10. I hear it's one of Microsoft's better rollouts and your initial impressions seem to support this.

    1. I never hesitated updating my Mac. Apple doesn't tend to break things like Microsoft. I'm currently in a text conversation with my son-in-law who installed Windows 10 this morning and it broke his network.

    2. After the one false start it went well. Last night however I was at the point of throwing the damn thing into the car and driving the three hours down to visit Rick.

I didn't report on the Blog (only Facebook) but the upgrade failed on the first try and I was left staring at the little spinning wheel all night. I restarted the upgrade this morning and it worked.

  2. Congrats, Croft. Glad you got Windows 10 installed. This new OS is definitely better than any previous Windows version built by Microsoft. I've been using it for quite a few months now and have not experienced any problems. Worldwide the roll out is proceeding without any major outcries or problems.

When you get the notice on your newer computers that they are ready to upgrade I don't believe there is any reason why you should hesitate.

    1. Thanks Rick, my confidence is slightly restored. Norma's desktop is next, an old Dell with W7 on it.

  3. I've done both my laptop and my weather station machine. Laptop was 8.1 and weather machine was 7. Both went off fine. Next is my main machine that I do a lot of Visual Studio programming on. I suspect that will also be fine since VS is a Microsoft product too.

    1. That seems to be the consensus Don, the upgrade works well. Norma's W7 machine upgraded without a hitch last night.
