Linux!

Linux Installed! I am no longer a slave to Windows! I made the new-to-me HP Mini computer a dual boot Windows 7 / Linux Mint 17.3 machine. It installed easily and then went through a lengthy update process.

I believe the Windows 7 install is corrupted and I don't intend to use it much. In fact I will probably convert the machine to just Linux  after a good test drive. In the meantime playing with it will keep me off the streets.

I don't know why I delayed so long. Just chicken I guess.

  1. As long as you aren't running any Windows only programs you can do everything you want on Linux.

And Mint is such a nice implementation of it.

    1. I really like the program and until you need a Windows program like Quicken which I use every day, you wouldn't even know you were in Linux.

Thanks for all the previous encouragement and help Don, I appreciate it.

  3. Congratulations! Linux sounds pretty good - except for that Quicken thing.

  4. There are open source financial management programs. You just have to stop thinking like a Windows person.

    1. I found GNUcash that will accept a Quicken file and allow you to work on it BUT it will not save as a Quicken file or transfer back to Quicken. Pretty useless for me unless I move right over to Linux.

    2. BTW, does your expertise extend to Linux? (fingers crossed)...

    3. Not enough to be called 'expertise', but I know folks who know a lot about it. :)
