  1. There is nothing better than home grown tomatoes. Sadly we have not had enough heat this year to give us much of a crop, but the ones we got are so much different that what you purchase, which are flavorless.

    1. There is no comparison between a home grown and a store bought tomato! I realized I had not checked your Blog out for a while and now you have me on a quest for bagels and lox!

    2. Finding the good lox is a challenge. Too many of the processors either over salt or under-smoke the delicacy. If I had more energy I would try and do cold smoking at home, but the salmon is way to expensive to experiment with sadly.

  2. Croft, where did you get such beautiful tomatoes this time of year? Our tomato plants have been gone since September. We plant the Celebrity tomato plants in spring, and they give us plenty of juicy tomatoes with good flavor until the first part of August; then, they wilt out and produce less desirable tomatoes. Right on, the ones in the store are flavorless. Now you have me going; I think we will have lasagna for supper tonight with homemade tomato sauce and ricotta cheese.

    1. Norma's Heritage Tomato plants were still producing a few days ago. She picked all the green ones and put them on a windowsill where they are slowly ripening. The one I sliced this morning was a little firm but had wonderful flavour!
