Mike, the service guy replaced the blown tire last night in the dark, working on the shoulder right beside the heavy traffic. He then followed us with his emergency lights flashing as I drove the twenty miles back to Wilsonville, OR at 30 MPH. We parked in the Les Schwap tire store and Mike gave us an extension cord to plug into. it was a pleasant enough night considering the stress level.
This morning we vented to the manager, telling him we always stopped at his store for a pressure adjustment and a safety inspection and were more than disappointed that they had let us go with at least three tires that were on the verge of failing. He agreed that they had screwed up.
He inspected all the tires and gave us a warranty adjustment of $40 per tire and they are busy putting all new tires on right now.
There is freezing rain headed this way so we are anxious to get on our way and over the Syscuse Pass into California.
Glad to know it's getting all sorted.
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't have to pay for the service call out of pocket, you're getting $240 for your trouble. I think the manager did a good job of making this right. How do you feel?
Drive safe! I haven't done the Siskiyou Pass, but I think you have and know what you're getting into? I just remember meeting some very frazzled RVers, probably int he Wilsonville area, trying to get a weather report for that pass!
We have been this way many times, every time actually, and there can be snow in the Siskiyou but it seldom stays on the road.
DeleteThe tire store did not waive the service charge but our AAA RV road service is paying it. I am OK with the end result and the manager knows we are displeased. He says he will try to make up for their screw-up in the future.
Easy does it Croft! Glad that the manager set things straight for you.
ReplyDeleteGood on you to assert some form of annoyance at the failed inspection of your tires. That the manager has, at the very least, offered up some form of compensation is a testament to his managerial prowess. Wishing you a seamless drive from here going forward.
ReplyDeleteAll fixe up and back on the road, travel safe.
ReplyDeleteGlad your tire blowout didn't cause an accident and you and Norma weren't hurt. Also glad the manager did the right thing!
ReplyDeleteWhere are you heading this winter?
CA and/or AZ. Not far.
DeleteWe will head to Scottsdale, AZ around Dec. 20. May take a trip over to Quartzite mid January for their big RV show, then down to Baja Mexico. Maybe we will cross paths!
DeleteDon't know what the tires cost but it sounds like $40 a piece discount is pretty good. Get the heck out of the snow and ice. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteThe tires were $220 US each before deduction, plus mounting, balancing
DeleteGlad to hear you have new tires and got some compensation from the tire store. Hope all goes well from here on in!
ReplyDeleteWe lived at the top of the Siskiyous just off I5 - that climb can be dicey this time of year - drive safe amigos!
