The Decision:
We had dinner and discussed our options. It is a lot of money but dirt cheap compared to having the same work done in Canada or the US. Doing it all at once means I only have to deal with temporary plates for six to eight months. Splitting the job into two would be a little easier on the cash flow but would mean temporary plates for twice as long, something that does not enthuse me in the slightest.
I think I am going to go for it. It is much cheaper than the $40,000 we paid for similar work on Norma ten years ago in Victoria. My cost will be $8K USA now and another $4K in six to eight months.
It is still a lot of money! My rainy Day Fund will no longer survive more than a small hurricane. But then I have to take a substantial payment out of it in 2016 anyway.
Short Term Consequences:
We are putting off the Baja trip. One reason is the money we will save but the main reason is being close to the clinic for a few months if I have to run back. Another reason is I suspect I will have trouble eating for a few months and I know I will have a better selection of food in the US than in Mexico. We are going to call and see if there is a spot in the same Mesa, AZ park we were in last year. It is nice and quiet and has a great pool and hot tub. We also made a couple of friends there.
All in all, it will reduce stress as I recover from major oral surgery.
I think this is the final decision.
Yikes! Tough to make a decision so fast but guess this will be the best. Mexico will be there next year too! Good luck! It will be great once it's all done - something to keep in mind during the process!
ReplyDeleteOn second thought - why not just go to Mazatlan. Lots of services there and several good RV Parks. That way you will have a cheaper dentist and the Mexican peso all winter long instead of the USA dollar..... I think the choice of food would be the same there.....
DeleteA tough decision, but sometimes we need to make adjustments in our plans. Enjoy the warmer weather for sure.
ReplyDeleteI hate dentists.
ReplyDeleteWAAAAAAAH HOOOOO!!!
ReplyDeleteerrr... I hope that means what I think it means.
Yes it does Shadowmoss. The decision process is still ongoing but it is looking like we will see you if you are still there. I changed "Tempe" to "Mesa".
DeleteSad to hear there wont be any baja fish tacos in your immediate future but then again think how tasty they wiull be when you finally do get to go...
ReplyDeleteCroft, they wanted me to use a removable denture but I wasn't about to do that. As for not being able to eat everything it's only the first month that you need to eat softer food but only if you go with the temporary bridge. If you are able to do the removable denture you can eat most anything but I couldn't stand to have it in my mouth.
ReplyDeleteAfter the first month you can eat most things but you do need to be careful about pulling and you really don't want to eat hard things. I made the mistake of eating pretzels and it popped one of the teeth off the temporary and I had to use super glue to hold it on. It did hold it until about a week before I went back for the permanent.
The bottom line is having the temporary is not that bad and it's only for 4 to 6 months.
I went back today to clear up what they meant by a temporary and yes, it is a real set of teeth and not the flipper that I rejected as well in February. What is causing my immediate snit is them changing the cost from $8K to $15K after they started the treatment. I am going to relax and think about it for as bit and I will probably do a post on the details. I do not blame Sani, just the circumstances and lack of communication.
DeleteI understand the annoyance.
DeleteI know for me I've been extremely happy with it. After having a 4 tooth flipper in front for 6 years it was so great to get real teeth back.
