RAM Upgrade

I upgraded the RAM in the netbook from 1 GB to 2 GB. My local computer shop did this task for $30. I could have bought the RAM on Ebay and installed it myself for $22 but for only $8 more he installed and tested it. It was a good thing as the first 2GB module he put in showed up as only 1GB so he had to try another which did work. I am not sure I can notice any difference in performance since the upgrade.

I asked him what he thought of Windows 8. He said he had only tried it once when he installed it on a customer's new machine and did not like it. It was the pre-release version and he did not like the user interface. He knew it could be tweaked to look like W7 but he did not do that. He said if it were him, he would just keep the old XP on the netbook. I will have to do more thinking about it.

  1. My XP seems to be chugging along nicely. It's only when I push my luck somewhat and have too many things on the go that it does tend to crash. By now I know how to avoid that though.

  2. I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro from 4GB RAM to 8GB. Cost me $90 with the shipping for the part and I installed it myself. Talk about a big difference in performance! I run a lot of apps at one time and my system would seize up. Now, the computer's running like new.

As for Windows 8, I'm barely getting the hang of Windows 7 (last Windows I worked with regularly was Windows 98) and will upgrade only by kicking and screaming and threats of being burned on the pyre.

    1. 8GB! Wow! The most my netbook will accept is 2 and I seldom multitask beyond one finger typing and drinking coffee at the same time so I probably will never push that boundry.
