Home!

We got home the day before yesterday after spending one night at Brooks and LindaLee's and have been busy unloading the motorhome. It is a big job that will take several more days.

My first job was to set up the new TV and attach the new Shaw Direct receiver Norma bought as soon as we got into Canada. It is all working just fine and it is nice to have the much bigger screen in the bedroom. I still have to deal with Shaw on the two PVR's that packed it in over the winter. They will not just allow you to say, "They are broken" and send you new ones, they make you conduct endless tests and re-sets (which I have already done) before they will replace them. I will call them when I have an hour to spend.

I have to drive downtown to get photographed for my new drivers license which expires tomorrow. The rest of the day will be taken up with filing our income taxes.

Oh yes, there was a letter awaiting us telling us that Norma's Mazda has been recalled because of a faulty ignition switch that could burst into flames at any moment. That would be exciting!

Sure glad we don't have to unpack out motorhome.

  2. Funny, we have two shaw PVRs in a closet, both in perfect condition. We switched to Telus when they offered us a deal to good to pass up.
Wecome home, and have fun with all that comes with it.

  3. It's all such a hassle with the receivers. When we got home they wouldn't work, so I called tech support. Naturally, they couldn't solve it over the phone and said they would have to send someone out at a cost of $150. But... if I signed up for the maintenance plan for $8.00/ month it would only cost me a $10. copay, however I couldn't cancel the plan for at least 6 months. So, for $58 I said okay. When the guy got here he turned on the TV and receiver and went to some screen and in 10 seconds had it working. He said they should have told me that over the phone. Geez. Kind of a joke that I "rent" the two receivers, but if they break down I pay to have someone come out.

  5. Shaw doesn't rent the receivers but they include a lifetime warranty when you buy them. However when you call about a problem they make you go through endless tests and they insist you plug the receiver directly into the wall and not through a power bar or extension cord. Then you do reset after reset until they are convinced you knew what you were talking about when you called them in the first place.

  6. Having done customer support endlessly on computers and software, there is a reason they do that. Idiots are amazingly adept at doing seemingly what you ask, but not really, through no direct intention of theirs. Not that you are an idiot. uhhh, really, I didn't mean that. /me goes off whistling

  7. Lucky you can unload at your leisure. We only are allowed 2 full days and we carted back and forth for hours each day. Good luck with Shaw.

  8. Thanks Shadowmoss! I am a bad customer, I lie to them and tell them I have it plugged into the wall outlet. But yes, some are idiots. "Oh, does the remote need batteries?"
