Ouch, $2K!

"We ordered a new parking brake assembly. It will be just around $2,000 after labor". That was what met us when we walked into the Service area this morning. We heard someone under the motorhome around 8:00 this morning doing his inspection. The part will be in either early Monday morning or late Monday afternoon. The work will be done either Monday or Tuesday, depending on the above.

It is a lot of money and will require a bit of belt tightening and a few nights in Walmart to help pay it. In the meantime a call to Cec, my "money guy" will get a few funds sold and some money put in the bank. With the furnace replacement, chimney repairs and gasoline costs to get here it was borderline with our budget anyway, this put us over the top. I have to dip into the Rainy Day Fund, but that is what it is for. What am I saving for at this age anyway? My old age?

We got the OK to drive a couple of miles down the road and are parked in a new RV "Resort" for $34 per night. It is close to everything and has good WIFI. Even though we left a bit of a smoke trail behind us getting here, Life Is (still) Good.

    owch that's gotta hurt the pocketbook! hope that's the ONLY issue you have all winter!!!!

    Ouch is right. At least it's not the tranny or engine. Gotta be at least a little thankful about that.

    Ouch is right! Such is the life of an RVer. I know! We had our share of issues (tires and body damage) last year with a major blowout. New tires and the 5th wheel insurance deductible set us back too. And that is why we also manage a 'rainy day' fund. Good luck with the repairs.

      Yes Rene', sh** happens. Good retirement planning means it may sting a little but it is not a life changing event for either of us.

      Yes it does Croft. But as Dan Colin kept telling me, 'If I had your money I'd burn mine'. It still hurts to have to part with it though.

    We usually spend 2-3 k a year on repairs and maintenance for our coach, it hurts but still cheaper than house taxes for us. Good luck with the repair.

      That is probably a pretty accurate figure for us as well if you average it out over the years we have owned it. Not all that unreasonable, all considered.

    Yep, it hurts a bit, but we're glad we are able to pay the bill. I'm glad you're settled for the weekend. It will pass and the following months will be wonderful. Thanks again you guys for all your help and support.

    At least this problem will be repaired and you'll be o.k. It still hurts to get an unexpected bill like that.

    It can always be worse. At least you do have that rainy day fund, many don't. The worst is the change in your travel plans. Hopefully you will still end up where you want to be for the holidays.
