Now we wait for some good weather when I will pay the insurance and take it in for a lube and oil change. We are anxious to get out in it!
This is the first year in a long time that everything works right from the start. Usually there is some problem, usually with either the water heater, the fridge or the propane system, all expensive repairs. Last year was an exceptionally expensive year, costing us a total of $4,800 CAN over the winter of 2015 - 2016 plus another $850 for car dolly tires and repairs, This was more than double our average costs.

At least you didn't rip the roof off last year!
ReplyDeleteSmall mercies....
DeleteYou will always be Roof Ripple Randle to me. ;)
ReplyDeleteGood feeling when everything works. One thing about RV's... always something to fix sooner or later.
ReplyDeleteYup, they always have a way to keep us busy. For all their advertising and hype, they are not designed for long term occupation or use.
DeleteCroft, I think I do remember a while back when you caught the edge of the roof, but I don't remember how you repaired the tear. I think you said you had a rubber roof. I noticed that Kevin used Eternabond tape when he had a problem. On our Hi-Lo, we have an aluminum roof with a rubber-like coating over the aluminum. After we had purchased the unit from the factory in Ohio in 2009, we found out that an aluminum roof makes a lot of noise in a hard rain storm. Beach and I have to yell at each other to be heard and turn up the tv to hear it during a storm. Just one of a few drawbacks to this unit, some of which we knew we would have like not having solid shower walls (you shower with a circular shower curtain attached to a track on the inside ceiling). No way to have stationary full walls in a telescoping towable camper.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Did you check the batteries and tail lights/brake lights?
DeleteI am a big fan of Eternabond tape and have used it a few times for puncher holes in the rubber roof caused by branches, etc. It also worked well when the ladder caught a passing tree and ripped the top screws out of the roof. I put tape over the damage and mounted the new ladder over the tape.
DeleteAs Rae mentions above, we have also seriously damaged two roofs, one in a low tunnel and once on a low overpass, both in Mexico. Both required replacement and were covered by Mexican insurance and were repaired in the US'
I did check and service the four 6 volt batteries but have not checked the rear lights. Thanks for catching that.
All RV's are noisy in the rain and I love the sound, yours might be a little noisier with the aluminum roof.
