The importation of American cars stopped when the Revolution started. The cars that were abandoned by the fleeing Americans are, for the most part, still running. Many of these have been converted to taxis so it is very easy to take a ride in a ‘57 or ‘58 Chev if you want. And we did!
There are now many cars being imported from Korea and China. These are very expensive and are mainly used by the government and as rentals. They will eventually enter the used vehicle market.
Love those 56-57 Chevys - had several a few years back ;-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a safe trip and apparently fun.
I am looking forward to your political take - I think there is soooo much bad press about Cuba (at least in the U.S.) Also about Presidents - Hugo Chavez, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Evo Morales and other south of the border leaders.
All these people have been demonized in the American press - and yet to read from them and listen to them talk - they all seem like reasonable people.
Are they solely demonized since they have Simon Bolivar leanings or?
Anyway I look forward to your further reports
I hope to visit there soon. The press once liked Fidel Castro-for a short while. He once threw out the first pitch at a MLB game, headlines in the paper I read, probably the Vancouver Sun.
