From my recent research I have come to the conclusion that the best used car deal, for me anyway, right now is a used Saab. Since GM drove the Swedish automaker into bankruptcy the price of used Saabs have dropped remarkably. There are some great deals to be had on Craigslist and such as people fear that spare parts might not be available. Not to worry, someone will be producing spare parts, it is a lucrative market. Saab was once sold by GM as a Cadillac BLS.
Here is one example in my price range. A 2001 9-5 Turbo Sedan for $3,500 (asking price) in Palm Springs:

Saab makes a quality car, as does Volvo. Nice size to tow on your dolly.
ReplyDeleteI have owned three Volvos and yes, they were all excellent cars. I wish I had kept the 1960 fastback!
DeleteI had a 1959 fast back Volvo on loved it!
DeleteWow, that Saab looks like way more car for the money.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm talking about! When you look at the condition of it and what he has done to it, it is a bargain!.
DeleteAll you need to do now is find a convertible! There's a Saab dealer here in Langley!
ReplyDeleteA convertible would be far too mid life crisisy.
DeleteOnly a Mustang convertible qualifies for the crisisy thing.
DeleteBeen shopping Rod?
DeleteNot me, but our son's In laws bought one. I do think Sylvia would look good in a Miata or BMW Z4 though.
DeleteIf the Saab is a Palm Springs original then it shouldn't have any rust on it for sure!
ReplyDeleteI was cruising Craigslist down in the south and there are tons of these things being sold off for much less than their Honda / Toyota equivalents. It probably has to do with the fact that the company no longer exists and people fear the lack of parts. The 9-3 is a little but smaller and seems to average 30+ mpg. It might be something to look into.
DeleteHad a Turbo Saab - a terrific vehicle - looks like a good deal from here.
ReplyDeleteSaab dealers are popping up all over Mexico. Neat to see new ones driving around Monterrey.
ReplyDeleteThe company is officially bankrupt. I wonder if they are somehow staying alive in Mexico? That would be good for the replacement part prospect.
