Grocery Shopping

Norma has been dropping hints that our freezer is pretty bare of seafood and Christmas is coming. So today we went down to the docks and paid a visit to Crabby Bob's Seafood. Not the cheapest in town but you know everything there is as fresh as it can be.

We bought a couple of whole 7 - 8 pound Coho Salmon and a few packages of smoked salmon. That will be a good start on the shopping. It was quite a bit less than I expected, only $144.

I think we have Christmas sorted out. We were going to have Brooks and LindaLee up here for Christmas but now it looks like we will be going down there. Jayde, our oldest granddaughter, quit her Vancouver job and her new one does not start up until January 15 so she will be visiting her dad looking for some work to pay her rent until she gets back to work. Brooks is holding a big painting contract for her, something she is good at and he hates so she should be able to make a couple of thousand doing that. LindaLee's parents might be there as well so it will be a fun Christmas.

It will be our first Christmas at home in about fifteen years!

  2. Sounds like a fun time. I know that we really enjoyed our Christmas back home with the family last year. It was our first one with our grandchildren.

I know you guys will have a great time!

    1. We will Ruth, thanks. Grandkids are so great. We should have had them right from the start and skipped the son part! LOL

  3. One Christmas we took our Hi-Lo camper up to our son's home in Wilson, NC. It took the pressure off the sleeping arrangements and bathrooms when a lot of friends and relatives were visiting him, and quite frankly, Beach and I enjoy sleeping in our own beds if at all possible. Since my son's house is built in the middle of a corn field, we had plenty of room to park the camper and hook up to electricity.

I know you envisioned not using your motorhome this winter, but is it possible to drive, park, shower, and sleep in your RV at Brooks' home during Christmas?

Yesterday, I went to the market here in Summerville, SC and purchased to small strips of wild salmon to prepare for supper and paid $14.00US a lb. Isn't that terrible? We were desperate not to eat another piece of turkey or second-day turkey salad. Croft, what does wild salmon cost in the Campbell River area of Canada?

    1. The idea of using the motorhome did occur to us but will depend on weather as they do get snow in their valley which would make driving in and out of their yard impossible. Great idea though, we will see what the forecasts look like. Love my own bed!

The price of salmon varies depending on availability. Fisheries allowed very little Sockeye fishing this year so it is not available at any price. We bought Coho which we like as much as Sockeye and it looks like whole fish were going for about $7 - 8 per pound. Filets were much more expensive, not sure how much.

    1. Thanks Les, you are very kind. Pickings are pretty slim for the deer now that the flowers are gone'

    2. Come on Les, tell us about the weather ;) Here in northern Mexico we are suffering from a cold front, 14C at night and 23C during the day! Brrrr.

  5. Just bought 2 nice fillets of sea bass and a half kilo of medium shrimp for 150 pesos. That's an inflated price as it's from Gilberto who delivers to the park. Still only about $10 Canadian. Ah Mexico!

    2. Kathy, this year I know how I will miss all the great fresh fish in Mexico (and its prices). We had to cancel our January trip because of my husband's knee replacements, but will be back after he can do the long distance walking again. Yes, Ah Mexico!!
