If this is what Cajuns eat like all the time, I should be one! Except I would have to cut down on the portions! This morning Norma wanted to go out for breakfast but by the time we got our stuff together it was after 11:00. We headed for Mary's, a small place not too far away but lunch was on the menu. Norma had a hamburger and I had the catfish plate which consisted of three huge fillets and a stack of fries. It was all I could do to get it down and when dinner time arrived, I was still feeling the after effects.
The owner of the RV park recommended a local restaurant, "Shucks!" aka "Shuckies" and said to be sure to order their Sassy Shrimp. After looking at the menu we decided to just make it an appetizer night. We ordered the Sassy Shrimp, a bowl of Corn and Crab Chowder, a cup of Crawfish Etouffee and an order of Onion Rings. Everything was delicious with the chowder taking first prize! It was delicious and we brought 3/4 of it home for later.
The waitress was nice and asked about where we were from before she said we just had to try the Bread Pudding. We were full but ordered one to go. We will have it later tonight.

WoW WoW WoW - so glad you went there! We did too! Wonder if Rene was your server - she was the best! The only etouffee I have eaten thus far! So jealous - but we'll be there at some point! http://alifemadesimple.blogspot.com/2012/01/shucks-restaurant-abbeville-la.html

ReplyDeleteHi Croft & Norma - We have never met but have spent lots of time with Barb & Sal over the past two years (we missed you both times) and have heard all about you two! Doug & I live in Nanaimo and travel around in our trusty VW Westie. I believe you are still at Betty's in Abbeville. Our dear friend, Mary-Pat Sherman is there too with her 22' Flair. Maybe you met her. She has a blog too and talked about going out for lunch today. YIKES!! Small world. Give her a hug for us if you meet her!!
ReplyDeleteWe also have a blog, http://runningawaywithdougandnancy.blogspot.com. Hope we can meet you somewhere. Just so you know, it's snowing in Nanaimo tonight!! Good thing we are heading south at the end of December!!
Thanks Doug and Nancy! We made a point of meeting her after hearing from you.
