We have both been down with the flu for some time now. Two days ago Norma starter to hack and cough and today I got the beginnings of a sore throat and a minor headache. Damn! Maybe I can knock it back with lots of water and Tylenol.
I have decided I need to visit the dentist in Algodones, Mexico. The bottom left rear molar that supports a five or six tooth bridge has developed a huge cavity below the bridge. The tooth must be saved or else I will need an implant to replace it. It does not hurt as it had a root canal 25 or 30 years ago but I can feel the cavity with my tongue. There is also some gum damage back there. Best to get it dealt with now.
Because of this we have added ten days to our stay here at Desert Oasis so we are here till the end of the month. I will call the Sani Group for an appointment, hopefully early next week. It is a three hour drive each way so I hope to get a noonish appointment and then stay one night at a $50 per night hotel in Algodones owned by the clinic.

Good luck with your tooth repair and not getting a cold again.
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Algodones too.
Good luck arranging the dental appointment and overnight accommodation. All the best with the dental fix up.
ReplyDeleteFighting a cold? Again? Not fun! The bug sure seems to be getting around. So many folks we know or follow are suffering from endless colds and/or flu.
I've been coughing for 3-4 weeks now. I think whatever is going around is just tough to get rid of.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good experience in Los Algodones.
Keep us posted how everything turns out.
ReplyDeleteNot fun getting a cold again - or having to go the dentist. Have you been to Sani Dental before to get dental work done?
ReplyDeleteI have not been there myself but a blog reader (Don, above) had extensive work done there and was very happy. I passed his recommendation on to a friend from Phoenix who went there and was very pleased as well.
DeleteQuite a few colds here in Las Jaibas as well. So far Eric and I have managed to avoid getting sick. Some people who did see the doctor were told if they hadn't done so they would have ended up in the hospital. Nothing to fool around with at our age.
ReplyDeleteNecessary evil! I hate the dentist. No offense to dentists. Get well soon and I hope the tooth issue isn't major.
ReplyDeleteSorry you and Norma are under the weather - vitamin C and lots of liquids I think. It would seem you are chasing the bug down. Get well soon in any case.
ReplyDeleteI have gone years without a cold or flu but this year I get hit twice? Unfair!
DeleteThe various bugs floating around this year seem to be quite diligent. Sylvia and I have been battling with the crud off an on for almost a month. It's never been too bad, as we've not missed any days on the trails or courts, but we've never quite felt like we were fully healthy either. Hey, at least it's not Shingles like a few folks here in AZ. That's definitely not any fun.
DeleteRod, it's a Republican plot!
DeleteHope you guys feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteSpent many hours in the waiting room at Sani Dental this winter and even with appointments it was common to wait at least an hour and often more to see the dentist. We went there because I had read a good review from another RVer. Our experience just goes to show that what works for some just doesn't for others. My husband had extensive work done and was happy with the outcome but after many tries and many hours in that waiting room, they were not able to make me a denture that fit properly. They ended up refunding half the cost and I went to another dentist.
ReplyDeleteAlberta Dental is where I went next and was very pleased with the work done there. The whole experience was handled in a much more professional manner and the offices, staff and facilities were excellent. We both felt that if we needed any more work done in the future we wouldn't hesitate to go back there again. I hope your experience with Sani Dental is better than ours was.
Wow! I have heard they are very good. Well, I guess I shall find out on Tuesday. I have an appointment at 1:00 and a room booked in their hotel that night.
DeleteI visited SaniDental last week and I had an appointment for 10am. I got there at 9:45am and was promptly ushered in for x-rays right on time at exactly 10am. About 10 minutes later I was called for my consultation exam which was very thorough - I know because I was told pretty much the same diagnosis as my dentist back home. I was quite happy with the entire visit and have scheduled a follow-up appointment to have some work done.
DeleteBased on my web research, I'm pretty sure that no dentist or clinic in Algodones gets a perfect 100% rating. Waiting seems to be the biggest problem that's why I prefer to make an early morning appt. so as to avoid getting held up by walk-ins. I'll see how my next appt. goes which is scheduled for at 10am time.
Further to my previous comment and just to make the point that no dental clinic in Algodones gets perfect ratings, here's what one Vancouver, BC resident wrote about Alberta Dental that's very contrary to the experience the Rolling Ritters had:
DeleteThis clinic is my scariest nightmare come to life. Not only did they try to put fear into me, lie to me, and do work that was totally unnecessary....they completely ruined the denture I had, by putting big holes in it, grinding away part of a tooth, leaving large rough spots and completely ruining my bite. I had to go and pay someone else to fix the mess they made, just so I could eat again.
Very scary and upsetting and that was just the consultation. Please be advised and stay far away from this clinic.
That's pretty much what I found while researching Sani prior to my visit. I found a few negative reviews but the vast majority were positive.
DeleteI think you'll probably get a decent job as long as you go to one of the dentists that does a lot of business. My decision to go with Sani was based on multiple reviews and the fact they paid for 5 nights in the Hacienda Los Algodones certainly helped (although I am thinking about staying at the casino a mile into California when I go back).
I had a mostly very positive experience there. You can read about it on my blog. http://donlafferty.com/blog/?p=1042
You should really do what you can and what you have to in order to really patch up that particular bit of problem. You can't really be rash about those kinds of things, especially if the condition of your teeth gets you really uncomfortable. That can really eat up into your days when left unchecked. Better have that dealt with as soon as possible for you to know what kind of measures and treatments you need. Take care!
