Yesterday we were looking for something simple for dinner and I suggested trying McDonald's new McLobster sandwiches. Norma was willing so I drove down and went through the drive through, paid my $15 something for two and took them home.
Well, save your money! They are about four inches long and consist of about a tablespoon of lobster mix on a bed of way too much lettuce on a doughy bun. In other words, a complete fail. Norma was not interested in hers after seeing it so I struggled through both of them. Not great. I probably should have taken them both back.
The idea is great. I love lobster and the idea of a lobster salad on a bun sounds great but the actual item is, what can I say? Not great! I will not be ordering another.

A real quality lobster roll is an amazing treat. Unfortunately, I can't have commercial ones because of the amount of mayo in them. I have them when I visit my mother sometimes and I make mine with sour cream or plain yoghurt, plus the mustard and celeriac. You want a really high quality bun, too. I wish this hadn't been your first introduction to one. :(
ReplyDeleteThe lobster roll was what I was hoping for and still am. This wasn't it!
DeleteThey got you from the looks of things, pretty sad. They should stick with the original items.
ReplyDeleteYes, the pictures sure make it look good.
DeleteMcD can screw up any food... Just best to avoid the place.
ReplyDeleteIt's back to the Filet-O-Fish for me!
ReplyDeleteThe filet-o-fish isn't too bad, but they slather on a lot of sauce on them also. Have to scrape some of it off.
DeleteThanks for the heads up, I was thinking of trying one.
ReplyDeleteHere in Massachusetts (and probably in Maine and NH too), the lobster roll is practically an official "state dish." Being a west-coaster by birth (moved here in my 30's), I always considered lobster to be an extremely expensive luxury food. If you wanted lobster in a restaurant in the Bay Area in the 80's, you had to be prepared to fork over $30-$40, which would certainly be much more now.
ReplyDeleteSo when I was offered my first lobster roll here, I was shocked an appalled. You do what with that lobster? Mix it with mayonnaise and put it on a hot-dog bun?!? Sacrilege!!! But I've since become a convert, though I prefer they go easy on the mayo.
But getting one at McD's? I don't think I'd even try.
