On The Way Home We Stopped To See Elvis

This Blog was created to chronicle our travels in Mexico but has since morphed into something else entirely. Our periodic Mexico travels are still in here but if that is why you came here, you will have to dig a little to get to it. Try searching the Blog Archive in the right hand column.
Ahhhhh..... better than the portable fire pit.
ReplyDeleteBurns less propane!
DeleteCroft, I swear, your fire looks so very inviting!! You and Norma probably should be glad that you made the decision to stay put. I'm reading comments from others that it is cold in Arizona, and Chris came home from Ecuador and had to dig out sweaters. We had a nor'easter named Stella which hit New England through the Mid-Atlantic States and affected balmy Charleston, SC area. No way to get away from the cold (unless travel to the Yucatan) but to give into it and light a nice fire like you did. But we do see beauty in winter weather around the Holidays and all the festivities.
ReplyDeleteWhoops! Rae just complained that it was cool in Merida when in the evening she took a walk to the taco stand. So I guess that the Yucatán is not insulated from cool weather, too.
DeleteThose Mexicans are spoiled! When the temps dip below 70 they are reaching for their mittens and scarves! LOL
DeleteCroft, if you are interested in bellwether or trendsetting elections, watch the Virginia Governor's election results tonight. Many feel that this particular election will set the tone for the US mid-term elections across the nation next year.
ReplyDeleteWe have been watching all the returns on CNN non stop tonight. It is a Democrat sweep!
DeleteThe results confirm that there truly is a God--a great Holiday gift!!
DeleteSpecially Danica Roem's victory in the Virginia House! A transgender beats the homophob who authored Virginia's "Bathroom Bill"!
DeleteWhat is interesting is the large spread in the percentage wins in the Virginia elections. That, in itself, is sending a strong message to the White House and Capitol Hill. Based on a recent tweet from Trump in South Korea, he has quickly proceeded to distance himself from the losing Republican candidate even though Don Jr. today (thinking that the election was tomorrow--Duh!!) tweeted their love and support for the GOP Governor candidate.
DeleteThe Virginia House is still up for grabs!
DeleteCroft, I know, but there are 4 seats which are under a recount at the insistence of the GOP encumbent candidate. Those, I'm pretty sure, will be added to the Democrat win column. However, secondarily, you are probably right. The problem has been the GOP in the past years has been working on redistricting (also called gerrymandering) in Virginia by pushing to have voting district maps redrawn (which equates to seats in the Virginia legislature) in such a way to favor the GOP's demographics. Google "Rachael Maddow Obama to fight back on redistricting for Democrats." Also, see "Rachael Maddow Democratic wave brings new faces to politics." Primarily, the importance of this election was the Governor's race and the Democratic win by 9 percentage points (even H. Clinton only won that state by 5 points, and she had a Virginia governor on her ticket for Vice President!). Another important point is that all these Democratic challengers to GOP encumbents had never run for office before, and most beat those encumbents by a wide margin. My goodness, one lady who won found out she was pregnant with twins a few days after she filed her paperwork for the race. She didn't back down and campaigned with passion for the seat. What is happening is that people are mad as hell and are coming out of the woodwork to participate and run. Even people who were once part of the GOP are now crossing party lines and now voting both in the Democratic primaries and for Democrats in their State General Elections. Just can hardly wait until the mid-term elections in 2018.
DeleteP.S. I really don't know if you get MSNBC in Campbell River, but if you do, watch the Rachael Maddow Show which airs here on the east coast at 9:00 pm weekdays. She is a superb investigative journalist and backs up her reporting with solid facts. She is so good that she was awarded two Emmys this year for her investigative journalism.
DeleteWe added MSNBC to our satellite TV package several years ago and watch Rachael almost every day. We get her at 6 PM. Canadian politicians have discovered gerrymandering as well ans are using it with abandon.
DeleteCroft, as the GOP has now found out in this Virginia election, you have to be very, very careful in redrawing those voting district lines, because if you don't have your "current" voting demographics perfect, the new district maps can come back and bite you on the butt. LOL! But, of course, those new lines were drawn before the Party of Trump emerged and the planks in the GOP platform changed dramatically.
DeleteIt seems that Oregon also had an election this past Tuesday. One of the voters went into the voting booth in Portland, took their teeth out and voted but forgot to pick them up on the way out of the booth. If anyone reading this is that person, you can pick your teeth up at the City Clerk's office in Portland. This is a true story as per Rachael Maddow reporting on MSNBC tonight.
