I went to check on the deer at around 7:30 and it was gone from it's resting spot. I walked around the house and there she was munching on the flowers. I walked towards her and off she went with NO LIMP!, I cornered her behind the motorhome, opened the gate and then got her moving towards the gate and out she went. I didn't actually see her leave but I cannot find her in the yard. I suspect she may have been bruised by a car or the fence and slept it off over the afternoon. She looks very healthy now.
I am now the laughing stock of the herd! "Listen up guys, this is good. So I put on this fake, exaggerated limp and the old fool served me salad and ice water and gave me a place to sleep!".

Maybe it is time to just give up on flowers and let the deer have their way. No more beating sticks in the ground, fixing fences, just worrying about stuff. I grow things, lots of things and the deer and whatnot have their way-I just plant more. For my fruit trees, I put a little wire around them when they are small , the flower beds just get eaten. The vegetable plots-they are about 10 times bigger than I need so we both get some. I gave up trying to keep the animals out, years ago.
ReplyDeleteMy father used to put up electric fence, shoot the beasts with rock salt loaded shotguns-too much drama for me.
Sooner or later these deer are going to stage a coup and rush the place.
ReplyDeleteOops! I still think you did the right thing although Norma would have been rather pissed.
ReplyDeleteNorma would have been very angry at me! :)
DeleteCould have been Norma stopping by to check on things in a deer suit!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I can't see it, she hated the things. She may have sent the deer out to check out my defenses though.
