Mudslide at Home!

There was a mudslide next door to us back home yesterday! We started getting reports in the afternoon and then friends sent us this photo from the local paper. Damage to our house appears to be restricted to the fence and one corner where mud is piled up.

We have been talking to the fire department and friends. Details are slow in coming. I will post more when we find out.

That is our property on the right (over the fence).

  1. That's a corner of the condo, right? It looks like the foundation is damaged. You guys got off lucky!

    1. 1) If I ever need a fence, I'm going to get Brooks to come out to SK and build it for me because will know it can withstand just about anything. :)

      2) People who build below a steep grade and mess with said grade deserve to be enveloped in a mud slide. You guys are much smarter than most people!

    2. Right, that is the condo. The mud followed the fence along our property and then went either beside or over the retaining wall into Pauline's property. Brooks used 8X8's for fence posts so it appears that although the fence is leaning way over, it kept the mud on the condo's side.

  7. Reading the Vancouver Sun newspaper online, I read about the record rainfall, mudslides and flooding up island where your home is in Campbell River. I too hope you get financial remediation for the damage caused. At the very least, the strong fence held the mud back. There is a lot to be said for that.

    1. There are workers in there cleaning up the mess and they had lots to say about the quality of the fence. The panels got knocked out but the posts remain solid in the ground.
