Our Florida Friends Gone - Just Like That

We just learned this morning that Paul and Dodi, the Florida couple we met in Mexico when they were abandoned by their RV caravan and then visited twice at their home in FL have both died late last month.

Paul went first with a sudden brain aneurism and was followed a couple of days later by Dodi who simply could not live without Paul.

Paul and Norma were born on the same day in 1942 and Dodi and I were about the same age. Makes you think.

We had a lot of fun with Paul and Dodi in three countries, Mexico, the USA and the Bahamas. Very friendly, generous people. Paul was the very definition of "a colorful character" and made the best Bloody Marys I have ever tasted!!

Here we are enjoying a late breakfast on Isla Aguada, Mexico in 2010. Miss you guys! Smooth sailing and,  "Keep the wind at your back and the sun on your face"!

  2. True that nobody knows when their time is up...one of the reasons that we're doing what we're doing at a relatively young age.

  5. It proves that life cannot be taken for granted. That you carry good memories of your friends is a tribute in itself. I'm sure you will tip a glass or two in remembrance of them.

  6. Yikes - very sad! In the photo all those people look so healthy. How fast things changed for them. My father, who was in fine health, died in the same hospital room my mother had died two days before. On her passing my father was so upset the hospital kept him there to adjust. Adjust he did - found dead in his sleep. Broken hearts can have amazing effect. Hang in there amigos. Enjoy life. As we can see one just never knows.

  7. sad and yet amazing how often that happens with close couples... as I always tell my bride "We are in line and the line is getting shorter..."

  8. My condolences. That's a shocker for sure. Interested to note that Paul is looking at the camera, and Dodi is looking at him.

Nice that you were able to enjoy some good times with them.
Thats why we need to enjoy the good life as long as we can.

  11. An old Uncle from the WW1 generation told me once that losing all of his friends was the worst part of getting old. I'm sorry for your loss.

  12. We had some very good times, mostly with Paul as Dodi was often out of commission with back pain or from the effects of her medications. Paul was a sailor, aircraft pilot, accountant, novelist and and explorer. At one time he owned the largest RV dealership in Florida. He loved people and loved to talk! When we stayed at the RV hookup on their property he was sitting outside our door most mornings waiting for me to wake up and join him for a coffee. He looked like a pirate. ;)
