Pole Dancers

No, not the ones you are thinking of! These guys were putting on a free show at the visitors area of the Tulum Ruins today. As they circle the pole, the ropes play out until they touch the ground. The man on top keeps the beat on a drum.

  1. These folks you mention are the famous "Vuelvadores de Papantla." They hail from just down the road from El Tajin and they have a pole set up there and perform several times a day when there's a crowd.

They also travel around the country and perform several times each day. There is a permanent setup at the Museo de Anthropology in Mexico City. They make their livelihood by the collection of donations that they manage to collect before each performance.

I recently saw them performing on the plaza in San Miguel del Allende. I hope you gave them a nice donation.
