I Should Know When To Shut Up?

Many of my fellow Bloggers have made the conscious decision to avoid politics. I have thought about this and my wife has encouraged me to do so as well. Well, tough. I am not going to. If I lose a few readers, those are not the people I want here anyway. If you are offended by my politics or lack of religion I am sure there are many other Blogs you would enjoy.

I started this Blog for myself and have always been amazed at the number of readers who have joined me along the way. I never expected anyone else to read this. I know I am not a great writer and I know my politics are on the fringe but my thoughts are mine and are what I believe in. What you see here is what you get.

I am an unashamed lefty atheist, but then you have probably figured that out long ago. I state my opinion and admit to trying to steer the opinions of my readers. I appreciate every one of you and value your comments and opinions more than you know. As long as you sign your name, I will not delete your comments. I consider you all my friends and even if we do not always agree, I will try to keep you amused.

My tongue has been loosened tonight by our house sitter, a childhood friend of our son who visited tonight with a $200 bottle of really nice single malt scotch!

I discovered yesterday that the motorhome fridge would not run on 120 volt or on gas! It tries to start and then the "check" light comes on. It has been working fine as Norma had wedding stuff in it most of the summer. She and Nancy were out there cleaning last week and she noticed the "check" light was on. The food in the freezer was still frozen solid so it had not been in trouble for long.  I played with it for a while, turning it on and off in both modes and finally called our local RV repair. They were booked for the next week but had a cancellation tomorrow morning. We rushed down to buy insurance for the rig and dropped it off at Bill Howich RV Repair. I will be anxiously be awaiting a phone call from them tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

  1. Hey. Your blog. Your content. Your rules.
I always say, "There's that little "x" up there in the corner that you can click on if you don't like what you see. Off you go!"
I started writing at the behest of some "pub buddies" who, after some pondering (and possibly a few beers) came up with the title. It sort of fit.
I find I tend to stay away from both politics and *shudder* religion, 'cause the whole mess could be lumped into one big crock of sh*t.
    Your mileage may vary.
Hope all is well in the fridge department. That sucker's important.

    1. it certainly can become a "big crock of s*it", Bob. But between my union and politics, I have wallowed in it for so many years there is little point in stopping now!

  2. Fringe Left-I think not. You have to get into radical land, blowing stuff up type thoughts to get into the fringe left. From what I can see, you are a man who thinks we can do better and is willing to say so. Center left is the color I would paint your barn.

We have been banging hard on the far right, the reactionary right, for over ten years in US politics, wanting to go back to some time in the past when things were better. The good things we had are considered bad now: high union membership rates, wages that bought more than the basics, pensions, employer provided healthcare, paid vacations. All paid for by our productivity in the work place-that gravy is all being sopped-up by the owners and stuffed in their offshore accounts today. Is this radical thinking? I think not. The right would have us back in the thirties.

    1. Love your blog (and your politics). Have fun in Mexico, I won't be reading your blog until we return from Cuba (oh..... is that a bad word for some of your readers). Hopefully I will be able to catch a bit of the US election on CNN in Cuba. Go Obama. Oh and don't forget we have an election in May to get rid of the non liberal liberals.

    2. Have fun in Cuba, Kelly! You should start a Blog to record your trips. I bet a lot of my readers would be interested in your close up look at Cuba!

    3. Croft, not a bad idea but I'd have to write everything as the internet is dial up. I did hoewver, last year, give our best pal and his son my old computer. They love it but obviously can't access the internet. We do get emails from them but not from the computer. I'll write notes, good idea.

      Hugs,
      K

  3. Croft, even though we disagree on some things, we also agree on a lot of things. It all makes for healthy discussion and I enjoy that. I also respect all different opinions even if I don't agree with them. For us, out blog is about our travels, it's not about politics or religion. But if you want to post political or religious things, then just expect some debate!

  4. Thankfully, Croft, you are willing to blog about politics and that gives me an outlet to vent whenever I read one of your excellent posts. It's a good thing I almost always agree with you or this could get pretty darned nasty (despite being friends, of course)!

Keep up the good work and onward to Nov. 6th.

  6. You are who you are and you do and write what you want. Continue on!!

Let's hope that the fridge problem is just the result of a spider nest!! Last Saturday I went over to the RV to pick up some spices for dinner here in the house and for some reason opened the fridge, it was warm! Plus all my frozen foods for the next 5 months were half thawed. Grrr.....RV fridges! We switched it over to gas and so far so good. Not sure about the food though.

    1. Well that is a bit of a disaster Contessa! You will have to get it serviced before you go. And eat all the half thawed food. It could have been a lot worse if you had not noticed!

  7. And what would life be like if we all agreed on everything. I may not agree with you on every one of your opinions, but it wouldn't be entertaining or enlightening if your opinions were the same as mine. Keep it up as long as your skin is thick enough to handle it.
Stay warm buddy, Mexico is calling you.

    1. This comment says it all - how boring the world would be if we were all on the same wavelength. My teeny weeny little brain gets even bigger when I hear differing viewpoints.
(And when I shotgun zinfandel... but that's a whole other story.)

Cheers to saying what you really believe. Life is short.

  8. Soldier on Croft. Yesterday I posted a couple of comments on your blog that I then removed. The comments were targeted to "Anonymous" but I then chose to remove them because he/she deserves no attention. One cannot educate the noneducational - pure and simple!

  9. Well if you haven't guessed I am not a supporter or either you political or religous views but I sure do respect your right to have the wrong opinion. It is only by understanding the differences that we can come to our own opinions. I do enjoy reading your blog and watching your glee at the the profits of free enterprise.

  10. I'm glad you're a leftist aethiest. If you changed you wouldn't be the same person, there wouldn't be anything to discuss, talk about, have a debate. I like politics. Keep blogging on what you believe in. That's what makes it interesting.

As for the fridge, I would give it a rest, clean it out and give it another shot. You have enough battery for an overnighter and it will stay charged all day since you are driving, at least until you can find a reasonable repair place.

  11. Thoreau said" "The one great rule of composition is to speak the truth...." As a Blogger with readers it is my belief I have a responsibility to be a critic as well as a jester ;-) The more freedom we have to write the greater the moral obligation to play those roles with truth. Am I saying we Bloggers should be - I hesitate before the horror of it - political? Absolutely!

My politics are quite different than yours - and isn't that the fun of it all! Preparing a defense for what you believe in is truly the kindest consideration you can have for others.

    Hang in there amigo.

  12. It's your blog; write what you want. I don't go too far with either politics or religion but knock your socks off. I don't agree always but wouldn't that be dull.
