It was a fairly long day today but we still did not make it as far as I wanted. Norma started to cramp up from sitting too long so we pulled off into the WalMart in Hood River, Oregon. We have stayed here before and their policy has always varied when it comes to RV's. They never allowed it in the past and on at least one occasion were quite rude to one RV'er who asked. Two or three years ago a new manager took over and started welcoming RV's. When we stopped today and asked, we were told that WalMart does not own the property so the city is in control of the parking lot. It is OK as far as they are concerned if we park but they warned us that the local police could enforce city policy and kick us out. We will take the chance.
It is cool and spitting rain. We are getting closer to home.
The caravan showed up!

Not a great spot - a small parking lot. We stayed on a side street right behind Double Mountain and Full Sail Breweries. There are a few state parks along that strip that are ok as well. That was enough for one day I'd say.
ReplyDeleteOne of my top five least favourite Walmarts in the States. I pulled in midday and didn't even have time to hit the parking break before I was pretty much told to move on (http://travelswithmiranda.uskeba.ca/wilsonville-camping-world-hood-river-and-john-day-dam/).
ReplyDeleteYou end up here every year and every year I grow more boggled that you haven't found a more hospitable spot. I still think it's worth the extra mileage, or finding a more direct route, to the Giles Day Dam. :)
The advantage to this route is that although there are shorter routes, there are fewer hills on this one and it probably burns less gas..
DeleteI see your comments are coming through again.
DeleteOne day,a towing bill will eclipse any fuel savings. ;)
DeleteIt takes enormous effort to comment. I think Google hates me.
At least you did stop for the night and had no hassle.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your win last night...now tomorrow!!!!!les
ReplyDeleteHood River, WA?
ReplyDeleteYes, Washington.
DeleteI didn't know there was one in WA. I guess I need to explore my home state a little bit more, eh?
DeleteSorry Betsy! Oregon, right across the river from Washington! It took me 4 months to figure this out! ;)
