  1. AND THE WINNER IS ... oh wait, we have an outdated electoral college.

  2. And if Clinton had won based on that, there were still more than 50% of the people who didn't vote for her. You can twist the number any way you want. Also, Trump based his campaign on winning the electoral college, because that's what counts. If it were based on popular vote, he may have campaigned differently. Nobody knows what the outcome of that would have been , so all of these numbers mean nothing...

    1. Twist the number?! How the hell can you twist a factual number. Clinton won the popular vote. That means more voters in this country would rather have her as president. The electoral college was established out of concern that a charismatic tyrant could manipulate public opinion and come into power. It failed on that account in this case.

    2. I agree Clinton won the popular vote....no twisting of numbers there.

    3. Yes, did get the most votes. But it doesn't matter. That's not what counts...

    4. It's what counts in a true democracy Kevin. The electoral college has outlived its usefulness. The proof is the buffoon that they will appoint and usurp the will of the people.

    5. Then, if enough people want them, get your government to make some changes.

    6. And of course as I said earlier but everybody has avoided commenting on... Trump based his campaign on winning the electoral college, because that's what counts. If it were based on popular vote, he may have campaigned differently. Nobody knows what the outcome of that would have been, so all of these numbers mean nothing...

    7. How can a campaign of bigotry, fear-mongering, misrepresentations, out right lies and demagoguery be any different? People have been conned since the beginning of time.

    8. Kevin, you mean he may have campaigned like a rational, honest human being if he knew he had to win the popular vote instead of only having to win small pockets of reactionary idiots that seem to control the EC vote?

  3. Wow, looks like over 70 million folks voted for someone besides Hillary.

    2. You're right but wasn't there 7.8 million people that understood what was happening

  4. So now that it's all done and said with,,, with 270 electoral votes there's only one thing you can do now is
Strapped in hang on and go for the damn ride. It's going to be the wildest A ride you've ever been on

  5. I'm just glad I don't live there anymore. Let someone else deal with it. The sad part is that Mexico will become and has already become very affected by it. National debt to GDP ratio is the killer which is now 93.6% for the U.S., Canada at 85% and Mexico at 37%. I think the whole thing is a plot by some distant country and they will take over all of North America; Trudeau, Trump, and Peña Nieto. What an embarrassment for the world. It is an indicator of what's to come.

  6. Consider this. Clinton got 2.5 million more popular votes than Trump. But Clinton also got 4.5 million more votes in California alone.

What this means is Trump won the other 49 states popular vote by about 2 million votes.

This is why we have the Electoral College. This is why our forefathers are shown time and time again how much smarter they were than 99.99% of the existing set of "leaders" we currently have.

    1. No Don, the EC system was put in placed to protect the slave states which had high populations but only because of their slaves who were not permitted to vote. The EC was also hoped to protect your country from being taken over by a tyrant who somehow managed to get elected. How's that working out? LOL, as I was typing this I heard a clip of Rush Limbough on CNN expounding on exactly the same argument as you just proposed!

    2. This is not a democracy, it is a representative republic. If we didn't have the electoral college the majority of folks in this country would have no say. Clinton won L.A. county and New York. In a democracy she would have won and the rest of the citizens would have no say. Democracy is two wolves voting to eat the one sheep.

    4. So Croft I understand the Electoral College was originally put in place for different reasons but what I posted shows why we should keep it in place.

    5. "If we didn't have the electoral college the MAJORITY OF FOLKS (emphasis supplied) in this country would hav no say." I'm really scratching my head over that one. Furthermore, "In a democracy she would have won and the rest of the citizens (I guess you mean the citizens who voted for Trump and lost in the popular, i.e., democratic, vote.) would have no say." You know, I minored in political science in college, and those two quotes are completely diverse to each other.

    6. Dee you are correct, I should have said people who don't live in those huge centers of population would have no say in the political direction the country takes. The point is, and you know it having studied political science, this is not a democracy we live in so the so called popular vote is irrelevant.

    7. Michael, when all of this Christmas chaos is over at my house, I will give you more detail as to why the US is a democracy. But for now, I will say that this country has been termed a representative democracy by both Presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson (who, by the way, was a large slaveholder and, therefore, had a "dog in the fight" for the creation of the electoral college). See Croft's post above in that regard. In addition, Chief Supreme Court Justice John Marshall termed this country a constitutional democracy. When defining those terms by all three of those men, they agree that this country has BOTH a direct democracy and an indirect democracy. The word "democracy" never leaves their vocabulary when describing this country's form of government.

    8. A republic is a representative government ruled by law. ( The Constitution ) A democracy is direct government ruled by the majority ( mob rule ). A republic recognizes the inalienable rights of individuals while democracies are only concerned with group wants or needs (the public good ). You will have to do away with the constitution to make this country a democracy. Regardless of what individuals may have said, the constitution Trumps. (<;
