Yet Another Tragedy

Sadly, we are becoming numb to these stories. Tragedies in the USA are being reported more often now, it seems, than ever before. School shootings, theater shootings, mass stabbings and now another bomb attack, this time at the Boston Marathon.

News is aggravatingly slow coming in but it looks like two bombs, enclosed in kitchen pressure cookers to inflict maximum damage were planted near the finish line. Luckily, "only" three dead, one of whom is a child. On the other hand, there have been serious injuries from shrapnel  We have been watching CNN and MSNBC pretty steadily since it happened yesterday.

It is sad that people have to resort to killing and injuring random, innocent people in order to make their point. It is unknown if the attack is domestic or foreign in origin but it matters little in the end, it is terrorism either way.

We did not go downtown today so I do not know if there is an increase in police presence in Las Vegas. They are usually more sensitive here and at nearby Hoover Dam.

Here is hoping the perpetrators are caught and dealt with quickly.

  2. Even worse was the fact that just after the bombing, people rushed the area and stole official jackets, T shirts, and other merchanise.

  3. Not just in the US - check out the world news. There are sickos killing innocents all over the world. Buy just one issue of The Economist (http://www.economist.com/) and you'll note thousands, even millions, being killed all over the world. They are British based so aren't so US centric as some of our publications.

BTW, we'd let you back in Pahrump if you can't take any more of Vegas.

  4. So I don't get why so many RVers seem afraid to cross the US border into Mexico when the murder and killing rate in the US is exponentially higher than in Mexico.

    1. Wouldn't it be great to figure out the answer to that question, Rene'. In Mexico 99.9% of the killings are members of one drug gang or another. In the USA, 99% are innocent bystanders. Your chances are exponentially better in Mexico as long as you do not join a drug gang.

    1. Yes, Don, but take away the gang killings and that brings the rate down to far below the US. One cartel is always killing off members of another cartel and these acts of violence hardly ever involve any non-participant, I feel very safe in Mexico.
