Port Arthur, TX

We got off to a late start this morning. We were all ready to go but when I went to start the Honda to load it on the dolly, it had a dead battery! This has happened several times in the last year but has always started right up with a jump from the motorhome. Today it would not start! Ron, the accommodating owner of the Jamaica Beach RV Park has a commercial charger on wheels so we gave it a 60 amp charge for a half hour or so and then switched to 250 amps. I turned the key and it started! The battery is not all that old and is under warranty from Walmart. I took it in in November but was told there was nothing wrong with it. I will have to try again here in the States. It was almost noon before we pulled out.

Janis!

We passed through Port Arthur, TX today at about 2:00. You may not know much about Port Arthur and neither did I. The one thing I did know about it is that it is the hometown of Janis Joplin!

Janis Joplin

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends.
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?
"Dialing for dollars" is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until 3.
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town?
I'm counting on you Lord, please don't let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round.
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town?

Everybody
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?

Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends.
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?

  1. When we were passing through TX to LA, all I knew about Port Arthur was the same as what you knew. We drove into town for a look around. Now I know two things: it is the hometown of Janis Joplin, and if I was born there, I would get out of there as soon as I could!
